The Ultimate At-Home Memorial Day

Coronavirus has brought a lot of late-spring and early summer fun to a halt. And while things are slowly opening back up, your annual Memorial Day cook-out is probably going to be a bust this year.

But you don’t have to give up your celebrations up completely. There are still plenty of ways to throw the ultimate at-home Memorial Day celebration. Here are some fun ways you can make the most of your time at home this Memorial Day.

Get festive

It wouldn’t be a Memorial Day celebration without red, white and blue decorations. If you haven’t put your flag up in a while, now would be a great time to put it up.

If you don’t have a flag currently, you can try a pompom American flag craft or some popsicle stick star streamers.

Learn how to make these crafts — along with several others with these roundups:

Plan your meal

A huge part of Memorial Day comes in the form of the annual cookout. While you can’t really invite the entire neighborhood over without presenting a huge risk to them and you, you can still host a socially-distanced cookout with those living in your home.

If you’re looking for a new recipe, we suggest you check out these delicious potato salads and these fun fruit salad recipes.

Not feeling like making a big meal? Might we suggest some Memorial Day carry-out options from local eateries.

Commemorate the day

It’s a bummer, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a Memorial Day parade this year (and by hard-pressed, we mean you won’t).

But you can still pay homage to those lost in pursuit of our country’s freedoms — and there’s no better way to do that then teach the next generation about their sacrifices.

You can do that by reading a Memorial Day book to your kids, researching and sharing your family’s military history or writing a letter to a veteran.

Check out our roundup for more ideas — just be aware that some may not fit in with the restrictions this year.
