As Michigan is under a “stay-at home order” due to COVID-19 concerns for the foreseeable future, Detroit- and Ann Arbor-area families should stay at home for their safety and practice social distancing.
We understand that this a challenging time for everyone, especially those with young kids, and we want to help by providing families a weekly list of our “daily picks” filled with virtual events, indoor activities and other fun things to do with your kids while at home.

- Teach your kids how to dive: Pools are reopening in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor. Embrace it by teaching your child this cool summertime skill.
- Make a rainbow craft: June 1 is the start of Pride Month. Celebrate it — and teach the kids what Pride is all about — by making a colorful craft.
- Make a dinosaur bin: Kids will love digging for Dinos with a fun sensory bin — and you only need some common household ingredients and some plastic dinosaurs.

- Have a backyard campout: Grab a tent and some firewood and treat the kids to a full camping experience from the comfort of your own backyard.
- Watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: And then try some fun at-home activities inspired by the hit flick.
- Have a dog scavenger hunt: Print out the scavenger hunt checklist from Detroit Dog Rescue, go on a family walk and see how many dogs you can find.

- Make some delicious donuts: National Donut day has passed but these sweet treats will satisfy any day of the year.
- Bring back the Kindness Rocks craze: Find and paint some rocks, then hide them around your neighborhood for other kids to find and re-hide.
- Talk to your kids about what’s happening in the news: It’s key to teaching them about diversity.

- Check out a student art show: The Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition Art Show features 232 pieces of artwork by DPSCD students and is on virtual display, now.
- Sign up for a virtual race: Detroit City FC, the MIU Men’s Health Foundation and Oh MI Goddess are all offering races that support good causes.

- Hit up a water trail: Got a kayak or canoe? Bust it out and head out to a local creek for some summertime water fun.
- Take a virtual roller coaster ride: Missing Cedar Point? Break your adrenaline drought with a virtual ride on Millennium Force, Raptor and others.
