COVID-19 Help From the Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor YMCAs

Are you looking for something enriching to fill your family’s weekend while sticking close to home? Your local YMCA delivers with a variety of virtual activities for kids (and grown-ups) of all ages.  

In late September and early October, 2020, the YMCA is stepping up to help families during the COVID-19 crisis with online classes and community services.

At-home workouts

Enjoy free access to more than 100 workouts. Ask your club how to subscribe to even more health content, including 800 virtual fitness options.

Detroit Can Film Festival

This second annual festival features the theme “What Really Matters Now” and is looking for submissions. Share your 10-second video on this topic for a chance to score a cash prize of $500 for youth ages 12 -17 or $250 for adults 18-plus. The festival will be held at the Boll Family YMCA in Downtown Detroit on a date to be determined. Submissions will be posted on the Y Arts YouTube and Facebook pages.

Select YMCA locations offer affordable early education for kids in pre-k along with childcare for children as young as six weeks. Programming aims to help strengthen the family unit and help kids build skills needed to start school. All programs offer free or low-cost meals to kids and will keep up on proper coronavirus safety protocols.

Headspace

Staying inside isn’t always easy but you can make it a bit more calming with meditation, sleep and mindfulness exercises offered by the YMCA.

Learning Assistants Wanted

Do you love teaching kids? The YMCA is looking for Learning Assistants to help children with remote learning at Y Learning Centers throughout metropolitan Detroit apply today.

Outdoor Group Exercise Classes 

Join your local YMCA for Outdoor Group Exercise Classes. Pre-registration is required.

Community seniors find online classes, health tips and workout videos geared toward them and their health needs.

Support for furloughed employees

Those who have been laid-off or furloughed fine support and other benefits through the YMCA.

Tuition Free Pre-School

The YMCA is operating a Great Start Readiness Program for families with kids who will be four years old by Dec. 1, 2020. A family of four may earn up to $65,500 and still qualify. Complete the contact us section on the YMCA website to learn more.

Virtual Arts

The YMCA and the Detroit Creativity Project came together to form the Improv Project online, which offers interactive arts and education.

Virtual Career Prep

This online service for teens helps them prepare for life beyond high school, call 313-223-2841 for more information.

The YMCAs might be closed for the time being, but you can still find all kinds of community support — including information on utility shut-off prevention, unemployment, food pickup and much more.

Keep your body and mind in shape with at-home fitness and wellness tips for both individuals and families with kids.

YMCA Youth SportPort

The YMCA’s YPPI SportPort Team visits local neighborhoods from Macomb to  Pontiac to provide free, organized, outdoor play to school age youth.  Click the link above to find a location near you and to register your child today.
