The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is Helping Families During COVID-19 and Beyond

In November, 2020, the YMCA is stepping up to help families during the COVID-19 crisis with online classes and community services.

1. Experience Family Fun and Fitness at the YMCA

Starting, Nov. 2, 2020, The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is Open with seven Locations to serve you.  Your local YMCA delivers a variety of in person and virtual activities for kids (and grown-ups). Reserve family swim and gym time or exercise while socially distanced in our wellness center or take a group exercise class. Learn about our cleaning and safety protocols here. 2. Enroll Today — Tuition Free Pre-School

The YMCA is operating a Great Start Readiness Program for families with kids who will be four years old by Dec. 1, 2020, at our Boll Family YMCA location in Downtown Detroit. Give your preschooler a great start today. Household incomes exceeding $100,000+ are eligible.

3. Be a Superhero: Become a YMCA Lifeguard or YMCA Learning Assistant Today

4. Register today — Early Childhood Education and School Age Care

Select YMCA locations offer affordable early education for kids in pre-k, along with childcare for children as young as six weeks. Programming aims to help strengthen the family unit and help kids build skills needed to start school. All programs offer free or low-cost meals to kids and will maintain proper coronavirus safety protocols.

5. Get out and play with the YMCA SportPort Team

The YMCA’s YPPI SportPort Team visits local neighborhoods from Macomb to Pontiac to provide free, organized, outdoor play to school-age youth. Click the link above to find a location near you and to register your child today. Children learn to play baseball, basketball, tennis, hockey and other games.

6. Pass the word — the YMCA is Providing Free Grab n’ Go Meals

This fall we are distributing ready to eat meals at eight locations in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The bundles include four lunches or suppers and snacks. All meals come with low-fat milk and prioritize fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins and whole grains. Also includes recipes and fun STEM activities for children.

7. Watch: What Really Matters Now – the 2020 Detroit Can Film Festival

  • Date: Friday November 6, 2020
  • Time: 7:00 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

The 2020 Detroit Can Film Festival will be hosted online November 6, 2020 at 7 p.m. Take time to see how our finalists shared “What Really Matters Now” in a 10-second (or less) video. Contestants were ages 12 to 17 for the youth category and 18+ for the adult category.

8. Experience The Improv Project Online

The YMCA and the Detroit Creativity Project come together to form the Improv Project online, which offers interactive arts and education.

9. Virtual Career Prep

This online service for teens helps them prepare for life beyond high school, call 313-223-2841 for more information.
